SEC Filings API

US EDGAR filings as searchable markdown exhibits — live plus historical backfill, all form types we index, including 10-K, 8-K, and attachments.

SEC Filings is the US EDGAR corpus—keyword search across the full history we index, plus browse-by-company when you omit query. Exhibits come back as markdown for models and apps.

Start with a company id (Entities) or a query string, call SEC Filing Search, then pass document_id to SEC Filing Reference or SEC Filings Markdown (search inside one file with query there too).

Each hit is a Document item (kind, document_id, parent_id, display, published_at, entities[]) plus SEC header fields on the filing or on a keyword document hit. Browse (no query) is kind=filing with every exhibit in documents[]. Keyword search is kind=document for the matched exhibit only. Use this group when you need fiscal year, 8-K items, or the SEC header. Cross-corpus search stays on Documents.

Coverage

  • When. Live as EDGAR accepts the filing (we watch the current-filings feed). Historical accessions we do not yet have are backfilled with the same parser, so an older 10-K is not a second format.
  • Which forms. Essentially all form types we index: periodic reports (10-K, 10-Q, 20-F, 40-F), current reports (8-K, 6-K), ownership (Forms 3/4/5, 13F, 13D/G, N-PORT), proxies, registrations, and the rest — including /A amendments. Call SEC Filing Types for the expansion; do not treat “10-K and 8-K” as the full set.
  • Which files. Browse returns the filing and every exhibit in documents[]. Keyword search returns the matched exhibit only. Graphics are not markdown. The IDEA XBRL zip is not markdown — tagged facts are XBRL (statement forms only).
  • Through when. Through the latest filing we have parsed. published_at and filed_at are the same UTC instant from SEC acceptance (Eastern wall clock). See published_at.

Extra fields

On top of The Document item. These sit on the filing and on a keyword document hit. Nested files do not repeat the submission header. Calendar dates are YYYY-MM-DD. correction_timestamp is UTC ISO-8601. published_at is still UTC from SEC acceptance.

Filters

filing_type_categories and filing_types use the same ids as Document Search. Categories and type groups expand to native SEC type_category / form lists. Raw values such as 10-K or 8-K are accepted (10-K includes 10-K/A). Full expansion: SEC Filing Types.

fy is four-digit fiscal years from the submission header. period is FY, Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4. Combine them to require both (2024 and Q2). from_date / to_date still filter acceptance day, not fiscal period.

Company id is the same handle as Entity Reference.
